DESCRIPTION
This is a very activity-based conversation course and an interactive social experience that is geared toward developing a positive learning atmosphere. We will focus on improving communicative competence and expanding functional vocabulary. Students will actively engage with each other and with the instructor in an effort to improve their speaking and listening skills in a variety of environments and contexts.
TEXTBOOK / MATERIALS
There is no required textbook for this course. You ARE REQUIRED …
...to bring a smartphone (or other device) with battery power and at least 500 MB of space
...to bring paper, pen or pencil, and a folder that contains ALL handouts from this course
...to join the class Band, complete the ENTRANCE QUESTIONNAIRE and install a few apps on your phone
METHODS
We will use a variety of instructional methods in this course. These include handout-based activities, small group discussions, jigsaw readings, partner practice, role play, recorded audio and video speaking tasks.
GRADING
Students will be assessed according to the following criteria
20% Attendance
20% Participation
20% Assignments

20% Midterm
20% Final Exam |
Grades will be distributed based on the required university quotas: 30% A’s, 40% B’s, 30% C’s
The midterm will include a one-on-one conversation with Jeff. The final will involve a group discussion.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
➤ If you are more than five minutes late will be marked tardy. If you are more than 20 minutes late, you will be marked absent for that hour. Students who start ‘packing up’ before class has ended will be marked tardy.
